Though exercise cannot help you grow, you may appear taller by incorporating some elongating tips.
A pull-up is a fitness move that requires you to hang from an exercise bar, holding on with your hands and keeping your feet suspended in the air. Using the strength in your arms, you then pull your entire body up until your chin reaches the bar. While pull-ups can strengthen your upper body and help you to stand taller, the move itself cannot physically lengthen your body. To achieve a taller appearance, build strong posture muscles, practice standing tall and incorporate elongating style choices.
Pull-Ups the Right Way
In order to gain any results from doing pull-ups, you must ensure you have proper form. Stand under the chin-up bar with your arms overhead and palms facing away from you. Jump for the bar, grasping the handles firmly with your thumbs wrapped around the handles. Your feet should be completely off the floor. Cross one leg over the other to help stabilize your lower body and engage your abs to stabilize your spine. Slowly begin bending your elbows to pull your body upward. Your elbows should point directly down toward the floor. Refrain from swinging your body. Continue upward until your chin is level with the bar and pause. Then, in a controlled manner, lower yourself and return to the starting position.
Working Your Way Up
Pull-ups work various muscles in your upper body, including your abs and chest, arm and back muscles. Though strengthening these muscles will not add inches to your height, it can help you look taller by helping your posture. Good posture heavily relies on strong back and core muscles, which are responsible for stabilizing the spine. When you strengthen these areas, you are effectively building the muscles required to keep your upper body balanced and aligned. Also, by performing exercises that work and build up your back, like pull-ups, you become more conscious of that area of your body. By becoming more conscious, it becomes easier to stand tall with a back and stomach you are proud of.
Stand and Sit Tall
You can look taller by adjusting your posture and aligning your body. Whether sitting or standing, keep your ears, shoulders and hips in one vertical line. If you remain in the same position for too long, you may naturally begin to tire, resulting in bad posture. If sitting for long periods of time, change your position every half hour for two minutes in order to stretch, stand or walk. This will keep your muscles from stiffening and becoming sore.
What You Wear Makes A Statement
Believe it or not, your clothes have the ability to make you look taller. For both men and women, ensure a perfect fit by tailoring your clothes and go for elongating patterns, such as thin, vertical stripes. Patterns too large can actually make you appear smaller. For trousers and jeans, wear them as close to your natural waistline as possible, as low-rise or sagging pants shorten the look of your legs. It is also important to make sure your pants are a darker color than your shirt. Light colors attract the eyes so a light-colored pant will shift attention downward. Keep the attention on your upper half by wearing necklaces, bow ties, hair accessories or even a colorful pocket square.
